Is your CV Good enough?

Job hunting can be hugely competitive so it is essential to stand out from the crowd and make an excellent first impression. The following are our Top 5 Tips for CV Writing (that you might not already know.)
 
Tip #1 Include Keywords: Most agencies and employers now use the internet to search for CVs so it is more important than ever to include as many keywords as you can, to ensure your CV is found. If you have worked in Purchasing, for example, ensure you also use the words Procurement and Buying or Buyer. In addition, make sure you include a list of skills, as many agencies and employers will search for CVs that include very specific words and phrases.
 
Tip #2 Formatting your CV: If you are sending your CV to agencies, most will upload it to a database. Using tables and text boxes on your CV can cause problems with uploading it successfully, so ideally ensure your CV is written as simply as possible to ensure you are quickly found on their systems.
 
Tip #3 Testimonials: To stand out from the crowd, why not include some testimonials from your previous manager, or indeed an extract from a Psychometric Assessment you have taken. For example “Richard’s professionalism, presentation and standard of work were excellent. He was a reliable, hard working and self motivated and I would not hesitate in recommending him to any organisation.” - Manager, Company
This really gives your CV credibility and improves your chances of being selected for interview.
 
Tip #4 Create Multiple CVs: Whilst it takes time to create a good CV, it is important to make sure it is relevant to the role for which you are applying. Agencies and employers quickly filter the CVs to create a short-list – If the skills and experience they require are not instantly identified on your CV, it is more likely to be rejected.  Many people have more than one CV, which focuses on different skills, depending on the role they are applying for. If you have experience as a secretary and a sales administrator, develop 2 CVs which emphasise different areas.
 
Tip #5 Remember the basics: Whilst all the above is important, don’t foget the basics either:
 - Try to keep your CV to 2 sheets of A4
 - Use bullet points to highlight responsibilities within a job
 - Include contact details and ensure you include an appropriate email address
 - Check the spelling and grammar
 - Get someone to proof read your CV
